About The Department

The Department of Civil Engineering came into existence as a part of the Institute since its inception in 1986. It offers UG Degree in Civil Engineering with an intake of 120 students and PG in TWO Disciplines (Structural Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering & Management). The Department is actively involved in Basic, Applied research, consultancy and provides high quality technical advisory support through various R & D projects and consultancy to various organizations. Through academic and sponsored research our faculty and students have published large number of research publications in quality Journals.In the recent past, the Department has attracted significant amount of consultancy funding from government and private agencies and delivered excellent output in terms of implementable solutions.

Civil Engineering profession involves Planning, Analysis, Design, construction and maintenance of different types of structures for government, commercial, Industrial purpose and to the public. These include High-rise office towers /Buildings, Schools, Airports, Highways, Tunnels and Subway systems, Dams, Canal and water Purification, Environmental protection facilities such as Solid waste, hazardous waste, Biomedical waste and waste water treatment systems. Civil Engineers co-ordinate the needs of society, with technical and economic feasibility have a direct impact on the public and the environment through their projects. It is socially associated and helps the people to live a better life. Civil Engineers are creative and yet Practical.The Department disseminates the knowledge gained from its quality research through training programs and interactions with renowned personalities through workshops and conferences.

Dr.G Narayana ,Professor & Head, Department of Civil Engineering Graduated from UVCE, Bangalore University in 1994,Obtained Masters in Construction Technology from UVCE, Bangalore University in 1998, and obtained his PhD  from UVCE ,Bangalore University in 2012 in the area of Soil–Structure Interaction. He has authored/coauthored more than 150 publications in journals and conferences at national and international level mainly in the area of Structures and concrete technology. He has awards and distinction to his credit by professional bodies which include Best Student Chapter  awards by Indian Concrete Institute(ICI)-Bangalore and Golden Jubilee Best Student Award (Alumni) by SRRVM, Bangalore -2019 and best teacher award by Rotary 3190. 

Dr.G Narayana is one of the most distinguished Concrete technologists known for his valuable contributions to research, consultancy and teaching in the area of Concrete Technology, Analysis and Design of structures. His contributions are related to Fiber Reinforced Concrete, Self Compacting Concrete, High Performance Concrete and concrete mix design.  He has reviewed and evaluated many Ph. D Thesis of reputed universities. Dr. G Narayana has visited South Africa (Cape town)- 2013 and Istanbul, Turkey-2019 in connection with technical conferences and deliberations.

                Dr.  G Narayana has served as member of BOE, BOS, LIC, and Doctoral Committee for VTU and other Universities. He has chaired technical sessions in many national and international conferences. He served as advisory and technical committee member for several National and International conferences.
